Donnelly Wants President To Address Veterans, Middle Class

Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Indiana, says in Tuesday's State of the Union address, he wants to hear President Obama's plans for supporting veterans and creating jobs for the middle class.

He says he also wants to know how Obama plans to work with Congress.

"The American people don't expect us to come here and act as Republicans or act as Democrats. They expect us to act as their hired help to make the country run better," Donnelly says.

Donnelly says it's important to make sure veterans are receiving the benefits they've earned. The senator also says he wants the president to address expansion of opportunities in skills training and education and fixing the nation's student loan system.

Donnelly is also highlighting the work of Sharon Cranfill, who directs the non-profit House of Ruth in Connersville, Ind. Connersville experienced a spate of heroin-related deaths and overdoses in fall of last year.

Cranfill, who will be a guest at tonight's address, says she wants to see more resources for treating addiction become available.

Donnelly says Cranfill is a "living testament" to working to make Indiana and the country better.
