Kokomo Stadium Violations Now In Compliance

Along with Kokomo's baseball stadium opening weekend came official notice that the city is now in compliance with flood mitigation regulations.

Indiana Department of Homeland Security released a statement Friday that the majority of issues have been resolved with land the city purchased with federal hazard mitigation funds.

"I am very pleased the situation could be resolved," Governor Mike Pence said in the release. "I commend the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security for working together in good faith."

FEMA suspended Indiana's entire hazard mitigation grant program in February, then reinstated funding for all of the state except for Kokomo in May.

Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight has stood ground on the stadium project calling the controversy government overreach at its worst.

"We made some immediate revisions," Goodnight said in an interview earlier this year. "We felt like we did everything we were supposed to do."

The Jackrabbits opened Municipal Stadium Sunday after severe weather delayed the game on Saturday.
