3. The spread of HIV in southeastern Indiana has slowed, but numbers are still going up.
The Indiana State Department of Health released new statistics yesterday on the HIV epidemic in southeastern Indiana caused primarily by injectable drug use.
There are now 166 cases—163 confirmed and three preliminary positive. That's up from 163 cases one week ago.
As of Thursday, the needle-exchange program in Scott County has seen 175 participants who have brought in approximately 21,276 used needles.
