Morning Headline Roundup: Monday, June 8, 2015

Good morning! Here are a few of the stories on our radar today.

1. Abortions performed in Indiana have declined faster than the national rate, according to reports from the State Department of Health and The Associated Press.

The most recent numbers available from the Department of Health show abortions in Indiana fell from 10,031 in 2010, to 8,027 in 2013. That's a decline of nearly 20 percent—compared to a national decline of 12 percent—according to an AP survey.

The AP report cites several laws that discourage or restrict women from ending pregnancies as the likely cause.

2. Dozens of students in southern Indiana have tested positive for tuberculosis.

Health officials in Sellersburg say 48 students were exposed to another student with a confirmed case of tuberculosis.

The Rock Creek Community Academy students will undergo chest X-rays and other tests to determine if they actually have the illness.

3. Indiana is getting hit with severe weather.

Multiple tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings and watches were issued Sunday night into early Monday.

Tornado warnings were issued for Montgomery, Fountain, Parke and Vermillion counties, but no major damage was reported, and no tornadoes on the ground were ever spotted.

As many as 1,200 power outages were reported around the state as a result of the high winds.
