Report: Indiana Cities To See Moderate Economic Growth

Some parts of Bloomington's economy grew in 2014. But, overall, the economy remained stagnant.

That's according to a report from the Indiana Business Research Center that analyzed job growth and wages. IBRC Director Jerry Conover says overall employment went down in 2014, while weekly wages went up.

But, he says in 2015, Bloomington should expect to see about 1,000 additional jobs come to the city.

"The overall economic output of the region should be growing as well, in the order of maybe 2 to 3 percent so modest growth, but any growth is better than the opposite," he says.

Another similar IBRC report indicates a moderate growth in employment for Columbus, as well.

And, a report looking at Terre Haute brings a more negative outlook, showing the city has lost jobs since 1990 and the loss of lower-paying jobs has led to a stagnant population.

However, for 2015, the researchers predict a slowly declining unemployment rate for the city despite a declining number of overall jobs.
