General Assembly Finalizes Common Construction Wage Repeal
The Senate spent more than three hours this week debating elimination of the common construction wage.
Republicans amended the bill Monday, repealing the state's minimum wage for public construction projects and adding in training requirements. The amendment also orders the Department of Labor to study the repeal's effects five years down the road.
And Tuesday, they narrowly approved the bill. Two days later, the House agreed to the Senate's changes and sent the bill to the governor.
Revenue Forecast Could Affect State Budget
The Senate also moved the budget forward after making a few changes – including a provision allowing school districts to puts ads on their buses.
Lawmakers received a new revenue forecast with slightly gloomier predictions for tax revenues in the next two years.
High-Fenced Hunting Preserve Regulations Defeated
The Senate killed a bill aimed at legalizing and regulating the state's high-fenced deer hunting preserves.
In ten years of debate on the subject, the measure has passed the House but never survived the Senate.
