At Fairfax Beach at Lake Monroe, a few hundred people ran into the cold dark green water this morning as a part of the 11th annual polar bear plunge.
Each year, the plunge has a costume theme. This year, was "hippies," so some Bloomington residents dressed in tie-dye shirts, while others wore bikinis and head scarfs. Overall, the clothing seemed scant for the task of diving into freezing-cold water.
But many plunged forward undeterred, including WFIU Morning Edition newscaster Drew Daudelin who agreed to take the challenge and wear a Go-Pro camera to capture the experience.
Here's the video he took:
For obvious reasons, everyone ran out faster than they ran in, hoping to get out of the freezing air and into dry clothes.
Participants received a certificate and the honor of saying they took the plunge.
