Indiana Planned Parenthood Cleared After Investigation

Planned Parenthood clinics in Indiana are in compliance with state rules and regulations regarding the disposal of fetal tissue, according to an investigation by the Indiana State Department of Health.

Gov. Mike Pence ordered the investigation into the abortion provider two weeks ago after a group posted an undercover video that purported to show national Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted fetal tissue. That practice is illegal in Indiana.

The governor said every Hoosier should be troubled by the allegations and that he had an obligation to ensure the practice wasn't occurring in Indiana.

After investigating the Merrillville, Indianapolis and Bloomington Planned Parenthood facilities, the state health department sent the clinics letters stating they were "unable to find any non compliance with state regulations," declaring the matter closed.

Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky CEO Betty Cockrum says she's not surprised the investigation found nothing.

"As we've said all along, PPINK doesn't participate in a tissue donation program," Cockrum said in a statement. "We hold compliance with all laws and regulations as an imperative."

Cockrum said she hopes Pence will now focus on teen pregnancy prevention and reducing the cycle of poverty.
