Bloomington PRIDE's Summerfest To Celebrate LGBTQ Community

Bloomington PRIDE is hosting a Summerfest celebration of the LGBTQ community and their allies Saturday.

The all-day block party kicks off with a pride parade starting at Cardinal Spirits and ending on 4th Street, where educational and family-friendly events will continue into the evening.

Organizers say there's a lot to celebrate in the second year of the festival. A Supreme Court ruling earlier this summer made same-sex marriage legal across the nation.

"I think it sends a really important symbol to everybody that if you are queer that you're accepted and you can get married to the person you love," says Sarah Perfetti, executive director of Bloomington PRIDE.

The festival will feature free HIV testing, arts and crafts and discussions about issues facing the LGBTQ community.
