Two Bloomington Residents ID'd In Tennessee Plane Crash

Law enforcement officials in Washington County, Tenn., say two Bloomington residents were killed when the plane they were in crashed on Friday night.

Cook Medical's vice president of engineering William S. "Bill" Gibbons Jr., 45, and his daughter, Abbey, 15, were killed when the single-engine plane crashed in the area of Johnson City.

As the  Herald Times reports, Federal Aviation Administration officials are still investigating the crash.

At 6:53 p.m. on Friday, reports indicate that conditions allowed for 10.0 miles of visibility. Wind speeds totaled 7 miles per hour toward the west, and it was lightly raining. Around 7:15 p.m., the crash occurred beyond the Pinnacle Fire Tower trail southwest of Johnson City, Tennessee. The next recorded National Weather Service readings show that, at 7:53 p.m., visibility had dropped to 7.0 miles, and the light rain had shifted into a thunderstorm.

FAA officials say the plane was on its way to Bloomington from Knoxville.
