Good morning! Here are some of the stories we're following from around the state:
1. Female legislators are attempting to neutralize male references in the Indiana state code.
At least 20 states have made their official language gender-neutral, and Indiana may join that number. In the state code outlining the details of statewide offices, traditionally male pronouns are used, such as "he shall" and "his duties." Rep. Sharon Negele, R-Attica, introduced a bill that would rewrite that code.
2. Democrats plan to challenge Republican Todd Young's candidacy for Senate.
Getting on the primary ballot requires 500 verified signatures from registered voters in each of Indiana's nine congressional districts. Todd Young is two signatures short in the 1st district, at least according to the Indiana Democratic Party. They plan to challenge his legitimacy as a candidate. The Indiana election division will hold a hearing on February 19.
3. Senate will hear arguments on a bill to let police withhold body camera video.
The bill, which would require a person to get a court order to get access to body camera video, passed the House last month. Today, it goes before a Senate committee.
