Headlines: January 28, 2016

Good morning! These are some of the headlines we're following from around the state:

1. Eli Lilly announces better-than-expected profits.

The Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical giant posted fourth quarter profits of $478.4 million, better than investors on Wall Street expected.

2. The Indiana Board of Animal Health released stricter guidelines on poultry farming.

The move comes after an outbreak of Avian influenza forced farmers to euthanize flocks in Dubois county. The new rules would require poultry farmers to keep track of animals for three years.

3. House committee advances bill limiting environmental rules.

House Environmental Committee Chairman David Wolkins said the legislation aims to protect state industry from governmental overreach. Staff attorney Kim Ferraro told the panel that the legislation is unnecessary.
