Indiana House Majority Leader Jud McMillin, R-Brookville, resigned abruptly from his post on Tuesday.
McMillin's resignation comes after sources say compromising videos of the lawmaker surfaced.
McMillin, who was considered a rising star in the GOP caucus, was first elected in 2010. He was chosen last year by fellow House Republicans to become floor leader, one of the top ranking positions in the caucus.
McMillin, an attorney and former Ohio deputy prosecutor, says he wants to focus all his attention on, in his words, "making his family's world a better place."
"Our caucus is thankful for Rep. McMillin's service to our state, and we fully support his decision to step down in order to focus on his family," House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, said in a statement.
The caucus will elect a new House Majority Floor Leader on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
