John Hamilton Returns From Conference Of Mayors In D.C.

Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton is back in town after spending last week in Washington D.C. at the 84th Annual Conference of Mayors.

In addition to meeting with President Obama and the First Lady, mayors talked about a wide range of issues affecting cities across the US—from infrastructure and job growth, to the health crisis caused by lead contamination in Flint, Michigan's water, bringing up questions about transparency in government.

Hamilton, who campaigned on bringing a sustainable economy to Bloomington, appointed members to a Wage Growth Task Force, which he charged with finding out what the most successful cities in America are doing to build a better economy.

Hamilton says that's an issue he saw reflected in the concerns of mayors across the country.

"A lot of it dealt with the economy and what we can be doing to help create a stronger middle class, higher wage jobs, connecting the education system with the workforce system and what some different communities are trying," Hamilton says.

Hamilton says that task force will be responsible for coming up with options for the City to increase wage growth.

The Conference of Mayors will reconvene in Indianapolis this June.
