Lawmaker Wants Consent Added to Sex-Ed Curriculum

An Indianapolis legislator says she'll introduce a bill in the 2016 session that would make consent a required part of the state's sex-ed curriculum.

House Rep. Christina Hale (D-Indianapolis) also introduced a bill this legislative session to extend the statute of limitations for rape cases from five years to 10.

State Sen. Frank Mrvan (D-Hammond) has reintroduced a bill to eliminate the statute of limitations for rape entirely. Corrections & Criminal Law Chairman Mike Young (R- Indianapolis) says that bill will not get a hearing since there's already no statute of limitations if the attacker uses a deadly weapon, seriously injures the victim, or is accused of drugging their victim.

This year legislators voted to put the statute of limitations on hold in cases where there's substantial evidence like a confession or a DNA sample.
