Morning Headlines: Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Good morning! Here are some of the stories we are following today.

1. Poor families are being turned away from Indiana's Pre-K program.

Of the 5,000 children who applied for early education scholarships in Indianapolis, only 30 percent of those who applied were able to receive funding.

The Indianapolis Star reports that of the more than 3,000 children turned away, most are younger and live in lower income households.

2. State officials want a judge to reduce a $31 million settlement to an Indiana family.

Last month a jury in Hammond ordered three Indiana agencies to pay Roman and Lynette Finnegan $31 million for the treatment they received in the investigation into their daughter's death.

Now the state wants that amount reduced, and as the  Indianapolis Star reports,  officials are calling the amount, "monstrously excessive."

3. Hoosiers are in line for one of seven different bowl games.

Indiana is bowl eligible for the first time since 2007, and they will likely play in one of seven different bowls, ranging from the Music City Bowl in Nashville, TN, to the Armed Forces Bowl in Forth Worth, TX.

Bowl selections are set to be announced Sunday, December 6.
