Morning Headlines: Tuesday, November 10, 2015

Good morning! Here are some of the stories we are following today.

1. A proposed detention center for undocumented immigrants in Gary could see staunch protests.

Activists and pro-immigrant groups are expected to hold a protest later today protesting the proposed detention center for undocumented immigrants in Gary.

The company slated to build the center, GEO,  has already been accused of mistreating immigrants in other facilities they operate, and the northern Indiana town of Hobart  has already rejected GEO from building a similar detention center in that town.

2. Central Indiana dogs are getting stem cell therapy to help with arthritis.

A couple of Indiana veterinarians are using stem cell therapy and surgery to help dogs with arthritis and other joint issues.

Fox 59 reports that one pet owner whose dog was recommended for a hip replacement elected to have the stem cell surgery instead, and says her dog responded extremely well to the treatment.

3. The start of Indiana's winter is expected to be mild.

While temperatures are starting to drop across Indiana, meteorologists expect the El Nino from this year to help keep the start of Indiana's winter dry and mild.

However, the El Nino is expected to reach its peak in December, which means colder and snowier weather could be on the horizon to start the new year.
