Pence Signs Letter Asking For Halt To Syrian Refugee Program

Gov. Mike Pence and governors from more than two dozen states penned a letter to President Obama requesting a temporary halt to the U.S. Syrian refugee resettlement program.

The group of 27 governors wants the federal government to suspend the program until it completes an "exhaustive review of all security measures" and implements "necessary changes."

The letter comes after Pence announced earlier this week that in light of last week's terrorist attacks on Paris, the state would not accept any more resettled Syrian refugees for the time being. Pence said testimony from the director of the FBI showed gaps in the screening process.

He was one of 34 governors to participate in a call with the White House earlier this week to discuss the refugee screening process, but Pence remained firm in his decision to not take in any more Syrian refugees.

At least two Syrian refugee families have been redirected to other states in light of the governor's decision.
