A caucus of GOP precinct committeemen Thursday night elected a replacement for former Representative Jud McMillin, who resigned earlier last month in the midst of a sex scandal.
Dearborn County Councilor Randall Lyness was chosen from among four candidates.
Lyness, a resident of southeastern Indiana, owns a construction company and previously ran for the State House of Representatives in 2010, losing in the primary.
In a statement, Indiana Republican Party Chairman Jeff Caldwell welcomed Lyness' input on important issues facing the legislature in the upcoming session.
And House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, says the West Harrison resident's local government experience will be an asset.
Lyness will serve out the remainder of McMillin's term, which expires next year.
