South Bend Democrat Pete Buttigieg was elected to a second term on Tuesday.
The South Bend Tribune reports Buttigieg won 8,515 votes compared to his Republican challenger Kelly Jones, who received just more than 2,000 votes.
The newly re-elected mayor took to Twitter to thank those who voted for him.
Buttigieg says in his next term, he'll continue to focus on economic development in the city.
"We've addressed 1,000 houses in 1,000 days, but we've got plenty of work to do to make sure we're heading off those vacant properties," he says. "We have hundreds of millions of dollars of investments tee'd up, generating more housing and expanding downtown, but a lot of it is in the works, so there will be no shortage of work to do to grow our economy."
Buttigieg, seen as a rising star in the state's Democratic Party, came out as gay earlier this year, making him the first openly LGBT executive official in the Hoosier State and the highest-ranking elected official to come out.
