Indiana health officials reported the state's first flu-related death of 2015-16 flu season Wednesday.
Indiana State Department of Health officials say even with a death early in the season, flu activity in the state and across the country is currently minimal.
"Unfortunately, this is a sad reminder that influenza can be very serious and deadly, and our sympathies go out to the patient's family," State Health Commissioner Jerome Adams said in a statement.
Adams said despite minimal flu activity, Hoosiers should not be complacent.
As we reported earlier this week, health officials are recommending Hoosiers get the flu vaccine now, saying the sooner someone is vaccinated, the more likely they are to be protected from the virus.
No shortage of the vaccine is anticipated this year.
