U.S. Rep. Todd Young, R-Ind. District 9, spent part of Veterans Day visiting with Bloomington-area veterans during several different events.
The representative's visit comes as he vies for a seat in the U.S. Senate.
Young shook hands and socialized at American Legion Post 18 on Wednesday. He says Veterans Day is an opportunity for remembrance and giving thanks — and for camaraderie, too.
"There really is an esprit de corps between veterans across different services because we are all committed to a higher ideal — we believe in this country — there's still optimism from every person in this country about our future, and that's infectious," Young says.
The representative is also on the campaign trail as he runs for Sen. Dan Coats', R-Ind., soon-to-be-vacated seat, and he says the campaign is going well.
"I think they're attracted to my message, which is really focused on effective conservative leadership," he says. "That's not just giving speeches, not just casting votes but actually coming up with specific solutions to our nation's pressing challenges."
Young is leading the money race in the Senate campaign with more than $2 million cash on hand.
