Hollingsworth Wins GOP 9th District Primary

Trey Hollingsworth secured a victory Tuesday from a crowded GOP primary for Indiana's 9th Congressional District — the seat vacated by Rep. Todd Young.

Hollingsworth emerged from a field that included Attorney General Greg Zoeller and two state senators. With the primary secured, Hollingsworth says he is looking forward to November.

"The path to victory is paved with hard work, conservative principles and a united Republican party. Together, we will bring conservative change to Washington," Hollingsworth said in a statement.

Zoeller spoke to voters at a campaign event in his hometown of Sellersburg, saying he enjoyed running in this primary even if he doesn't go forward in the race.

"I picked one that's probably going to go down in some political science history book. It's one of the most remarkable," Zoeller says.

Hollingsworth attracted significant attention because of the businessman's recent move to the state – Indiana has been his home for only a few months. His campaign was funded almost entirely by himself and his father.

Hollingsworth will run against Democrat Shelli Yoder in November.
