Artisan Distilleries Can Sell Carry-out Alcohol On Sundays

For the first time since prohibition, distilleries in Indiana can sell carry-out liquor on Sundays.

The new law went into effect July 1, making the July 4th holiday weekend the first Sunday distilleries could take advantage of the change.

Several Indiana businesses lobbied for the legislation for years, arguing it would allow them to compete with Indiana breweries and wineries. Bloomington-based Cardinal spirits was among them.

"We think it's going to be especially beneficial to us in Bloomington because we get a lot of people from out of town here on the weekend so it will be a great opportunity for them to try our spirits and take them home with them," says Cardinal Spirits President Jeff Wuslich.

General  Sunday alcohol sales are still up for debate; a  summer study committee will take a comprehensive look at the state's alcohol laws.
