First Assembly Hall Turnstile Sells For $2,010

The first Assembly Hall turnstile up for auction this week sold for more than four times as much as the minimum bid price.

It's the first of two dozen turnstiles the Indiana University Surplus store is selling over the next month.

There were more than 50 bids for the turnstile from people hoping to bring home a piece of IU's iconic Assembly Hall.

Bidding started at $500 dollars but the turnstile sold for $2,010.

IU Surplus Store Sales Marketing Materials Manager Todd Reid says he expects prices will go even higher for the 23 remaining turnstiles.

"I think people are ultimately going to associate a memory to Assembly Hall and dig a little deeper to bid on them in auction because it means something to them," he says.

The turnstiles will be auctioned off through the last week of March Madness.

Money generated from sales goes back to IU Bloomington and a portion of the revenue will be designated for athletics.
