Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Baron Hill wants his opponents to agree to a series of debates and town halls across the state in the run up to November's election.
Baron Hill says Hoosiers deserve access to their candidates, which is why he's challenging his opponents – Republican Todd Young and Libertarian Lucy Brenton – to a series of four debates and five town hall meetings.
"Television commercials are one thing; press conferences like this are another thing," Hill says. "But direct access to voters through debates and town hall meetings is the best way for voters to get to know the temperament, the knowledge and the experience of the candidates who are involved in this race."
The nonpartisan, independent Indiana Debate Commission typically organizes Senate and gubernatorial debates – Hill says he'll work with the commission on his proposal.
Todd Young's campaign manager Trevor Foughty says Young looks forward to debating Hill and is committed to working with the Debate Commission.
Libertarian Lucy Brenton says she accepts Hill's challenge, adding she'd be "delighted and honored" to, in her words, "share liberty in any venue."
