A Bloomington man arrested in connection with the death of his two-month-old daughter appeared in court for the first time Tuesday.
Robierre McNeil, 33, faces charges of aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
Police say McNeil was alone with his infant daughter on May 29 while the baby's mother was at work. He reported to police that he checked on the child at 4:45 p.m. and found her unresponsive. The girl was pronounced dead at IU Health Bloomington hospital.
An autopsy revealed evidence of two skull fractures resulting from blunt force trauma.
Detectives interviewed McNeil on June 1, at which time he denied knowing how the infant could have received the injuries. BPD determined his statements were not consistent with evidence gathered during the investigation.
