Indiana Department of Transportation officials say they will return in 60 days with an update on Section 5 of the I-69 project, after a series of frustrated questions during a meeting at Bloomington City Hall Friday.
Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton was unable to get answers about the project's apparent slowdown, citing a third party study that shows the developer has spent 60 percent less than anticipated by this point in the project.
Project Manager at INDOT Sandra Flum says for the project to get back on track, and to meet its ultimate deadline of June 2017, it needs to pick up the pace in the next 60 days.
"I have every confidence, because we're overseeing our contract with the developer and holding them to responsible contract management, that if it doesn't happen within the 60 days, if there's no certainty at 60 days, that there be further action taken. But I just don't know what that further action is," Flum says.
Section 5 of I-69, which connects Bloomington and Martinsville, was originally slated for completion in October.
