Bomb Squad Investigates Pizza Box At Ball State

What package is suspicious enough to clear a building and call in extra police help? For Ball State University, it's a pizza box sealed with aluminum foil and hand-delivered to the school's Parking Services office.

Ball State police evacuated the school's student center yesterday and called in the Delaware County bomb squad and a K-9 unit to look into the matter.

Today, University Police documents say the pizza box contained a parking ticket, a note to the office, and a bag filled with more than twenty dollars in dimes and nickels.

Twenty-one-year-old Ball State student Jackson Hiatt from Westfield was arrested for intimidation for the stunt. Hiatt told officers that he was protesting the ticket by paying in change.

The Delaware County jail says he has been released after posting bond. During the evacuation, university spokeswoman Joan Todd says the school was using an "abundance of caution" in investigating the suspicious box.
