Daybook: Addiction Summit & Plug-In Cars As Road Funding

Good morning! Stay up to date on today's top news:

  • Attorney General Greg Zoeller is hosting a summit focused on mental health and addiction in the criminal justice system. This is the sixth annual Criminal and Civil Justice Summit, which brings government and health leaders together for panel discussions on alternative sentencing and treatment solutions for mentally ill or addicted offenders. Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush will join the event, along with state legislators, county sheriffs, Legal Director of the ACLU of Indiana Ken Falk and others. Follow Drew Daudelin ( @DrewDaudelin) for updates.
    • A new study from IUPUI shows one proposed option for road funding is no real option at all. Lawmakers are considering adding annual registration fees for plug-in vehicles, with the revenue used for funding new road construction and repair, since electric vehicles do not contribute through fuel taxes to road construction and maintenance. Indiana Public Broadcasting's Brandon Smith will have this story today. Follow him ( @BrandonJSmith5) for updates.
