Daybook: Birth Certificate Lawsuit & Hoosier Half Marathon

Good morning! Here are the stories our team will be following today:

  • Same-sex couples are suing the state for the right to have both names listed as the legal parents on their child's birth certificate. Right now, the state will only recognize biological parents. The couples will present their case to a judge today at 10 a.m. Follow Brandon Smith ( @BrandonJSmith5) for updates from the courtroom.
    • The 11th annual Hoosier Half Marathon begins at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. Race day typically sees an average low temperature of 45 degrees and and average high of 65 degrees. This year, however, racers are expected to experience a low of 31 degrees. We'll talk to race organizers about how the cold weather could disrupt plans. Follow Becca Costello ( @Becca_Costello).
      • In light of recently confirmed cases of the mumps virus on Purdue University's West Lafayette campus, school officials will open health clinics for students, faculty and staff. Follow Sarah Fentem ( @Petit_Smudge) from partner station WBAA ( @WBAANews) in West Lafayette.
