Daybook: Goshen College Donation & ISTEP Scores

Good morning! Stay up to date with today's top stories:

  • From the Associated Press: A small northern Indiana college has received $3 million worth of Illinois farmland from the estate of a former student who attended only three semesters more than 70 years ago. Goshen College says the donation comes from Milo Albrecht of Morton, Illinois, who died in April at age 94. The land donation follows his 2014 gift of $2 million in stock to the 1,000-student liberal-arts college affiliated with the Mennonite Church. Albrecht attended the college in 1939 and 1940 before returning home to help on the family farm. He never married or had children. Herb Roth says his cousin lived a simple life and was stunned when he learned about the value of Albrecht's stock market investments. The school says Albrecht's donations will primarily go toward scholarships for nursing students.
    • From Network Indiana: Long awaited ISTEP tests are being released today. The spring scores originally were supposed to be released last week. No word yet on what caused the delay. The Department of Education spokesperson said this is unacceptable and another reason to move away from the ISTEP test. The scores will cover grades 3 through 8.
