Holcomb May Not Have Access To All Of Pence's Campaign Cash

Republican gubernatorial candidate Eric Holcomb might not have access to all of his predecessor's campaign funds.

Prior to receiving the gubernatorial nomination, Eric Holcomb said that, if picked, he would enjoy financial support from Governor Mike Pence – translating into the nearly $7.5 million left over in Pence's gubernatorial campaign fund.

Upon becoming the nominee, Holcomb was less specific when asked about Pence's campaign cash.

"We have talked about his support," Holcomb says. "I look forward to that continued support and I'll let him speak for himself for every penny."

But simply transferring "every penny" from Pence to Holcomb might not be so easy. A couple of Federal Election Commission rulings from the last decade indicate Pence can only transfer donations to Holcomb that comply with federal campaign finance standards – which are much stricter than state laws.

If that's true, a large portion of Pence's campaign cash could be off-limits to Holcomb. The state party and the campaigns are exploring their options.
