Indiana Clinics Get $1.5 Mill. For Substance Abuse Services

Four Indiana health centers will share $1.5 million from the Health and Human Services Department to fight substance abuse.

The money is specifically targeted towards treating opioid use disorders in underserved populations.

The grants awarded to Indiana clinics are part of a $94 million package. Forty-five states got a portion of the money. In a statement, HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell called the opioid epidemic one of the country's most pressing health issues.

"Expanding access to medication-assisted treatment and integrating these services in health centers bolsters nationwide efforts to curb opioid misuse and abuse, supports approximately 124,000 new patients accessing substance use treatment for recovery and helps save lives," wrote Burwell.
