IPFW Realignment One Step Closer With Trustee OK

Indiana University trustees have voted to approve splitting the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne campus.

Thursday's 7-2 vote to approve realignment is pending approval Dec. 16 by Purdue University trustees. The new structure would take effect July 1, 2018, at the 13,000-student campus.

Under the split, IU would focus on health and sciences along with the Indiana University Medical School in Fort Wayne. Purdue would handle all other academics and transfer its nursing, radiography and dental education programs to IU.

Leaders from both schools announced the plan to split the campus in April. They said the goal would be to reverse enrollment decline, improve the rate of student success and strengthen the school's contribution to northwest Indiana.
