Monroe County Inmate Dies, No Foul Play Suspected

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office and Coroner's Office are investigating the death of an inmate at the Monroe County Jail.

Clinton Gilkie IV, age 19, was found unresponsive on June 7. Resuscitation efforts were conducted by jail staff before he was transported by EMS to the IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was pronounced death at the hospital.

Preliminary autopsy results show Gilkie died of a ruptured aortic aneurysm, but final results are pending a toxicology report.

Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer says no foul play is suspected.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Gilkie was housed in the Recovery Dormitory at the Monroe County Correctional Center.

The Recovery Dorm is for inmates who work on substance abuse issues and life skills. It's for men who have the best chance of improving themselves after they are released.

Gilkie was arrested in September 2014 for armed robbery.
