More Mumps Cases Confirmed In Monroe County

The number of mumps cases in Monroe County has more than tripled in the past month. The Monroe County Health Department says there are now 14 confirmed cases in the community.

The first four cases were confined to Indiana University, but some of the recently-confirmed cases include people outside of the campus. The health department says they haven't confirmed any links between the cases.

The health department is urging anyone who exhibits mumps symptoms to stay home and call their healthcare provider instead of showing up to a prompt-care clinic or the emergency room. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness and swollen salivary glands.

Several other communities and campuses throughout the state are also dealing with mumps cases.
