The NCAA took action Wednesday to prevent states with discriminatory laws from hosting future events.
The decision comes after several states passed laws similar to the original version of RFRA that sparked a firestorm in Indiana last year.
The NCAA board voted to adopt a new rule requiring cities hosting or bidding on NCAA events to prove how they will protect participants and spectators from discrimination. In a video posted to the NCAA website, Board Chair Kirk Schulz says the organization wants all students and fans to be treated fairly.
Full implementation of the new requirements will be incorporated during the current bidding process.
