New Ohio River Bridge To Open To Traffic This Month

A new Ohio River bridge connecting Kentucky and Indiana will open to traffic on Dec. 18 after a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a public caravan across the span.

The East End bridge will connect the Prospect area in Kentucky to the Utica area in Indiana.

Media reports say government leaders from both states will be joined by representatives of WVB East End Partners, the construction company in charge of designing and constructing the bridge, for the ribbon cutting.

Officials said the bridge will open to the public several hours after the ceremonial caravan crossing.

Construction on the bridge began in June 2013 as part of the $2.3-billion Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project, which includes the new Lincoln Bridge, the overhaul of the Kennedy Bridge and the rebuild of Spaghetti Junction in Louisville.
