Two public viewings of an uncommon Mercury transit have been cancelled today due to weather.
Overcast skies have led Link Observatory in Martinsville to cancel their viewing event. Kirkwood Observatory on Indiana University's campus were supposed to begin their event at 11 today. They are monitoring the skies until later this afternoon, but it's unlikely they'll be able to open their telescope.
It's been nearly a decade since Mercury passed between the Earth and Sun. The next Mercury transit will not be until November 11, 2019.
NASA will livestream the event and add updated images and videos of the transit on their website.
