Subcontractor Resumes Work On I-69 After Pay Dispute

The city of Bloomington says Crider and Crider, the subcontractor that stopped working on Section 5 of I-69 earlier this month after not getting paid, is resuming construction on the project.

The Indiana Finance Authority sent a letter of non-compliance to the private developer that's designing and building the section of interstate from Bloomington to Martinsville earlier this month. In it, the IFA says I-69 Development Partners owes the subcontractors it hired to build the interstate more than $9 million. Section 5 is being built through a public-private partnership.

Mayor John Hamilton, D-Bloomington, and Rep. Matt Pierce, D-Bloomington, called on the state to reclaim control of Section 5 to ensure it's completed on time. The IFA says those requests are premature.

The 21-mile portion of interstate was supposed to be done next month, but earlier this year INDOT announced a new target completion date of June 2017.
