Some Terre Haute residents are concerned about the proposed site for the Vigo County jail.
Vigo County commissioners announced Tuesday the jail will be located on the former International Paper property along the Wabash River.
Riverscape planners have collaborated with Vigo County Commissioners for more than ten years on riverfront developments. President Charlie Williams says he's worried the new jail doesn't fit into their development and beautification visions along the river.
"It makes no sense," Williams says. "I mean, other people aren't going to want to locate there and there are just better locations for this. We're confident."
Williams says the final lot next to the new Vigo County School Aquatic Center is a hard blow to their plans.
"We're disappointed and we've been working with them feverishly for the last month to find a different location," Williams says.
Officials will work on funding sources for the new jail once the location is finalized.
