Republican U.S. Senate candidate Todd Young is adjusting to a new opponent after former Senator Evan Bayh replaced Democratic Senate candidate Baron Hill.
Young is emphasizing his ties to Indiana. Talking about one of his bills that would help fund a local initiative in Indianapolis, Young says that he'll focus on his connection to Indiana-based solutions.
"After all, this solution would have never happened were it not for the inspiration by and interaction with Hoosiers on the ground. I think it's essential that we have a United States Senator that does so as well."
That's a not-so-subtle nod to the fact that Evan Bayh has lived, at least in part, in Washington, D.C. for several years – a common criticism from the Young campaign. It's the same sort of attack that was leveled at Republican Dan Coats in his 2010 Senate campaign – an unsuccessful attack, since Coats won. But Young says this race is different because of a specific issue:.
"I'm running against someone who voted for Obamacare who's never had to stand for account for Obamacare," says Young.
The Indiana Democratic Party must formally nominate Bayh in a meeting this week.
