Vandal Paints Swastikas, 'KKK' Along Bloomington's B-Line Trail

Bloomington Police are investigating after an unknown person painted swastikas and the letters KKK along the B-line trail.

Thursday night around midnight, an anonymous person called the Bloomington Police Department saying there was a man with a beard painting graffiti on Bloomington's B-line trail.

Bloomington P.D. Administrative Captain Steve Kellams says when officers went to the area, they didn't locate anyone but did find vandalism between poles 142 and 149.

"In that area there were a number of swastikas on light poles as well as on the pavement itself, and the letters 'KKK'," Kellams says.

Kellams said he does not know the motivation for the vandalism, which was present in six different areas of the trail. But this graffiti is not the first incident of vandalism in Bloomington this year.

"It's not infrequent to have hate-related-type vandalism. We've had that frequently in the past," he says. "So, unfortunately, it's not that uncommon."

The vandalism has been painted over. Someone placed handwritten signs along the trail with counter-messages.
