Gov. Mike Pence officially dedicated the Wakeman Clinic at Camp Atterbury today in a ceremony attended by high-ranking military officials.
The clinic opened in February, and is already impacting the lives of veterans across south-central Indiana.
Much of the focus of the dedication was on the importance of mental health among the nation's veterans in addition to their physical health.
"Abraham Lincoln said, ‘We must care for him who shall have borne the battle.' And that's what today is really all about," Pence says. "Because I can tell you that, as your governor, and as a member of a military family, I know that the scars that our veterans bear are not all physical."
The clinic currently offers urgent care services, and plans are in the works to eventually staff the clinic with eye and ear doctors.
