Whikehart To Seek Monroe County Commissioner Nomination

Former Ivy Tech Chancellor John Whikehart is seeking the Democratic Party nomination for Monroe County Commissioner in District 3. Whikehart was chancellor of the Ivy Tech Bloomington campus between 2001 and 2014. Whikehart also worked as deputy mayor for one year following his time with Ivy Tech.

In a statement, Whikehart says, "The commissioners are the executive branch of county government, and I believe I bring a strong background in leadership and administrative experience to the office."

In January of last year, Whikehart decided to leave city government. At the time, he said that he had considered running for mayor but he decided he "wasn't ready to make that commitment at the time."

Whikehart has yet to name his campaign committee.
