Bloomingfoods co-op is hoping to expand its customer base with the introduction of a new grocery delivery service.
The store recently launched "Bloomingfoods 2 U" where customers can schedule their groceries for pick up or delivery online. Bloomingfoods General Mananger Tony Alongi says they've had a handful of orders in the past week, but he says what they're doing is unique. Bloomingfoods is the only local grocery store in the area that's delivering.
"I don't think it's a secret to anybody that's followed Bloomingfoods that Bloomingfoods has struggled in the past several years. We thought it was important to make a statement that we're still here," he says.
The service costs $2.50 per delivery or pickup for owner-members of the co-op. For non-members, a grocery delivery costs $10 and pickup costs $5.
Alongi says if there's more demand, he could see the grocery store expanding delivery to a greater service area to include customers outside of the greater Bloomington area.
