IU Confirms Identity Of Student Found Dead In Residence Hall

Update: Oct. 29, 10:25 a.m.

An IU official has identified the student found dead in Read Hall Monday as 19-year-old freshman Jessica Tran of Indianapolis. 

Spokesman Chuck Carney says there are no signs of foul play or self harm in her death. He says Residential Programs and Services and staff from the Dean of Students' office met with students Monday night.

Tran was a member of IU's Groups Scholars Program, an initiative started by the university in 1968 to increase attendance among first-generation and traditionally underrepresented students.  

The cause of death is still under investigation.

Update: Oct. 28, 3:11 p.m.

Indiana University police say a 19-year-old student was found dead Monday morning at an IU Bloomington residence hall.

IU Capt. Craig Munroe says the department received a call at 8:28 a.m. and responded to Read Hall.

He says the 19-year-old was a student and was living in Read Hall. Munroe says the cause of death is unknown and there are no signs of foul play.

Munroe says there's no present danger on campus and that the investigation is ongoing.

Indiana University police are investigating a death at one of the school's residence halls.

IU spokesman Chuck Carney confirmed the investigation and says emergency personnel were called to Read Hall on the Bloomington campus Monday morning. 

The investigation is ongoing.
