Indiana's First Cat Cafe Joins Forces With Local Animal Shelter

The Nine Lives Cat Cafe in Indianapolis is the first of its kind in the Hoosier state. The business is teaming up with the local animal shelter to help find stray cats a home.

Customers can get a latte, a snack and the chance to hang out with a number of shelter cats.

Baristas make the drinks on one side of a glass partition, while on the other side the cats run, tumble and play with patrons.

"We kind of act as a free roaming cat room or maybe like a foster home for these cats," says owner Selena Hubbard. "They live here, they are not caged up, they roam around here until they get adopted."

Nine Lives owners say they've had 15 adoptions as a result of patrons meeting their new cats at the cafe. They charge a $5 cover fee to interact with the cats for an hour, but customers who adopt a kitty can get that fee back.
