Police arrested an Indiana University sophomore Sunday charging him with impersonating a police officer.
IU Police Department Lieutenant Craig Munroe says 19 year old Arjun Singh allegedly texted a female student saying he was involved with a federal agency and needed to speak with her.
"She went over to his room in Wilkie and he had a document that he wanted her to sign that had a federal agency logo on the top that looked official," Munroe says.
Singh faces two felony charges and three misdemeanor charges. This includes a confinement charge as the victim says she did not feel comfortable leaving the room until the document was signed.
Details about that document have yet to be released.
Munroe says to be wary of cold calls from law enforcement. He says you should always double check legitimacy by reaching out to local police.
"Say hey you know I received this call I'd like to verify that this individual is who they say they are," Munroe says.
Singh is being held in the Monroe County Jail.
